Armed Forces Peer Support

Practical peer support for serving personnel, veterans and families after injury, illness or life-changing circumstances.

PAS UK provides Armed Forces peer support for people who need practical guidance from someone who understands military life, injury, disability and the challenge of rebuilding confidence after major change.

We support serving personnel, veterans, family members and professionals who are trying to find the right help at the right time.

Our role is simple. We listen, help people make sense of what is happening and support them to take the next practical step.

Support from people who understand

Leaving service, adjusting after injury or dealing with the long-term impact of trauma can feel isolating.

Many people are given information, forms and referrals, but still feel unsure about what to do next. Families can also be left trying to hold everything together without knowing where to turn.

PAS UK offers grounded, lived-experience support. We understand the Armed Forces community, NHS pathways, military charities, welfare routes and the wider reality of living with disability or life-changing injury.

This support is not about telling people what to do. It is about helping them regain control, confidence and direction.

Who this support is for

Our Armed Forces peer support can help:

  • serving personnel
  • veterans
  • people who have been medically discharged
  • people living with injury, disability or trauma
  • families and carers
  • regimental associations
  • welfare officers and case managers
  • NHS teams and rehabilitation services
  • military charities and partner organisations

Some people come to us soon after injury or illness. Others contact us years later because something has changed, support has stopped or they are struggling to move forward.

What PAS UK can help with

Every situation is different, so our support is shaped around the person.

We can help with:

  • one-to-one peer support
  • practical advice after injury, illness or disability
  • support with confidence, independence and adjustment
  • signposting to trusted Armed Forces and disability services
  • help understanding NHS, welfare and charity routes
  • advocacy where people are struggling to be heard
  • links to mental health support where appropriate
  • support around mobility, equipment and day-to-day independence
  • guidance for family members and carers
  • support for regimental associations helping their members

Where someone is also dealing with trauma, anxiety, PTSD, emotional strain or adjustment after injury, our Mental Health Support page explains how PAS UK may be able to help.

If someone needs support with disability benefits, forms, mandatory reconsideration or tribunal preparation, our PIP Support page explains the practical help available.

We do not replace clinical, legal or statutory services. We help people understand what support may be available and how to take the next step.

Peer support groups and regimental association support

Through our Armed Forces peer support work, PAS UK can also support group-based activity for veterans, injured personnel and regimental association communities.

This may include:

  • peer support groups
  • informal group sessions
  • online support sessions
  • practical talks for regimental associations
  • guidance for welfare teams supporting injured or disabled members
  • links into wider PAS UK support where individual needs are identified

These groups help people connect with others who understand the reality of service, injury, transition and long-term adjustment.

Regimental associations, welfare teams and partner organisations can contact PAS UK to discuss support for a member or group.

Why PAS UK is different

PAS UK is a disability-led charity built on lived experience.

Our team understands the practical and emotional impact of life-changing injury because we have lived it, worked through it and supported others through it.

We bring together:

  • lived experience of military service
  • lived experience of disability and rehabilitation
  • knowledge of Armed Forces support routes
  • understanding of NHS and charity pathways
  • practical advocacy experience
  • a whole-person view of recovery and independence

That means we look beyond one issue. Injury, disability, trauma, benefits, housing, mobility, confidence, family pressure and identity are often connected. Good support needs to recognise the whole picture.

Supported by

PAS UK’s Armed Forces peer support project is supported by Bolt Burdon Kemp.

Their sponsorship helps PAS UK strengthen peer support for the Armed Forces community, including work with veterans, injured personnel, families, regimental associations and partner organisations.

This support helps PAS UK keep practical, lived-experience advice available to people who may otherwise struggle to find the right help.
